For 60 years, this comedy's regard has risen from "acclaimed" to "classic," an only incremental increase in a consistently sterling reputation. In fact, even before its many awards and nominations -- including Best Picture and Best Director Oscar nominations, with a Best Actor statuette for James Stewart -- the stage incarnation ran for a year on Broadway. Howard Hughes bought the rights to the play and gave them to Katherine Hepburn as a gift. For her role as an icy heiress caught between past and future loves, she also earned an Oscar nomination, leaving only Cary Grant's performance unacknowledged among the three stars. Restored with linen-backing, this folded half sheet is scarce, and paper on this well-loved film is highly sought. Crease marks and light stains in the borders do not detract from the memorable images. Fine on Linen.
