This is the elusive Chapter 1 serial one sheet, entitled "the Spider Strikes". Republic Studios produced some of the best serials during the genre's heyday. This 15-chapter Republic programmer starred Ralph Byrd as the granite-jawed detective, who battles a master criminal called the "Spider". Posters for this title are exceedingly rare and are seldom seen. This chapter 1 sheet features entirely different artwork to the other 14 chapter sheets. Chester Ghould's own rendering of his famed detective is featured on the poster as well as an artist's version of Ralph Byrd in his first turn as the crime-fighter. The poster had slight fold line wear, several tears and some staining towards the bottom along with minor trimming to vertical borders only. The poster has benefitted greatly by professional restoration and now presents as extremely attractive and desireable.
